Wonder Health Tip: Micro Challenges
For most of human history we’ve only had brief spurts of ‘comfort’ – full after a hunt, warm in our abode and safe from predators or other tribes.
Not anymore.
Now we have climate-controlled houses, cars and offices.
Food is readily available: in the kitchen, down the hall or from a vending machine (please don’t get into the habit of eating food from a vending machine!).
We’re seldom exposed to extreme heat or cold.
Some of us consider not eating for a few hours as ‘starving’.
Unfortunately, spending so much time in our comfort zones is unhealthy.
Introducing Micro-Challenges
This is one of the reasons I advocate the concept of Micro-Challenges.
Over the past few years I have had:
- Cold-only showers for a year
- Ate meat & eggs only for a month
- Multiple 5-day fasts
Why should we do these Micro Challenges?
- It's a Reset. E.g. After 4 weeks of meat and eggs you can really taste the sugar and chemicals in almost every other food you eat. As we're constantly exposed to more comfort, more consuming, more everything. This reigns it in a bit.
- It increases Appreciation (or Gratitude). Best meal I've ever had? Mince and cheese (after my first 5-day fast).
In our comfortable 21st Century, first-world lives, it's good to remind ourselves how easy we have it.
So over to you:
What Micro Challenges are you going to do this year?
